TONFISK DESIGN was founded by the designers Tony Alfström and Brian Keaney.

Brian Keaney has a Master of Arts in Ceramic and Glass, UIAH Finland and bachelor of Design in Industrial Design, NCAD Rep. of Ireland. From 1997 to 98, Keaney worked with Finnish furniture designer Ilkka Suppanen producing prototypes and assisting with design work. In 1998, he opens Studio Brian Keaney Helsinki, designing and producing ceramic and glass tableware as well as freelance design work.In 1999, he founded Tonfisk Design with his partner Tony Alfström.

In the spring of 2000, Tonfisk's WARM range quickly became one of the year's newest trend objects, and by 2001 Tonfisk's customers included The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), Harrods in London and Corsocomo in Milan.
